Achilles Tendinopathy
The Achilles tendon is a strong band of tissue that attaches the calf muscle to the calcaneal bone. The Achilles tendon can be injured in a variety of ways. The tendon can have an acute inflammation referred to as tendonitis. It can also suffer from a gradual deterioration called a tendinopathy.
Both however can occur due to excessive overloading or compression. Physiotherapists can help assess with a specific diagnosis and treat appropriately, to help aid recovery. An assessment of lower limb biomechanics, strength and control is always completed during your first assessment with East Cliff’s Physiotherapy Team and often a heel drop exercise regime will be used to help regenerate the tendon and prevent recurrence.
