Tennis Elbow
Tennis Elbow or Lateral Epicondylitis as it is medically known, is a condition that causes pain around the outside of the elbow. Despite the name, most people who develop this condition have never played tennis! 1:3 people will experience Tennis Elbow at some point in their life.
The condition occurs after strenuous overuse of the muscles and tendons of the forearm.
You may experience pain
– just below the elbow joint down to the wrist
– when lifting/bending your arm
– when gripping small objects
– twisting your arm ie: opening jars
After a thorough assessment your East Cliff Physiotherapist may utilise treatment techniques such as massage or manipulation to treat the affected area. They may recommend the use of an elbow clasp to offload the tendon. You will also be given an exercise programme consisting of stretches and strengthening exercises called eccentric loading.
